GUIDE SPECIFICATIONS FOR PYRAMIDAL SHAPED SOUND DIFFUSERS
Section 09840 Acoustical Treatment

Part 1 General
1.1
Work in this area shall be subject to drawings, general conditions, schedules, addenda and other contract documents.
1.2
The extent of Acoustical Resources, Inc. Pyramidal Shaped Sound Diffuser Panels are shown on the drawings and in schedules.
1.3 Submit one sample of each type of Sound Diffuser Panel as shown on drawing and schedules and include appropriate technical information including test data and maintenance instructions.
1.4 Provide sound diffuser panels from one source.
1.5 Sound Diffuser Panels shall be protected from excessive moisture in shipment, storage, and handling. Deliver in unopened bundles and store in a dry place with adequate air circulation. Do not deliver material to building until "wet work" such as concrete and plaster have been completed and cured to a condition of equilibrium.
1.6 Installation of Sound Diffuser Panels shall not begin until all wet work is completed. Building shall be properly closed in and under standard occupancy conditions (temp. of 60 - 85 degrees F. and not more than 80% Relative Humidity).
1.7 The contractor shall be responsible for the examination and acceptance of all surfaces and conditions prior to the acoustical panel installation.
1.8 Warranty: Panels will be warranted to be free from defects in material and workmanship, under normal service and use, for a period of one year from the date of installation.

Part 2 Materials
2.1
Sound Diffuser Panels shall be type: Pyramidal Shaped Ceiling Series Panels as provided by Acoustical Resources, Inc. / P.O. Box 200504 / Austin, Texas 78720-0504 / Telephone (512) 259-5858 / FAX (512)259-5850.
2.2 Standard Sound Diffuser panels shall be constructed of a laminate of one layer of 1 1/2 ounce fiberglass mat saturated with fire retardant polyester resin with a top coat of white gel-coat molded in one piece in a special offset, inverted pyramidal shape. (Specified Pyramidal Shaped Ceiling Diffuser).
Option IA: Internal pyramidal portion of the diffuser shall be lined with 1 1/2" thick layer of glass fiber batts adhered to it. (Specified Pyramidal Shaped Diffuser with Internal Absorber (IA).
Option IL: Internal pyramidal portion of diffuser shall be lined with fire retardant Klegecelltrademark2.jpg (722 bytes) board. (Specified Lined Pyramidal Diffuser (IL).
2.3 Sizes: As shown on drawings. Standard overall size per panel are:

P22 = 23 3/4 x 23 3/4 x 8 h
P24 = 23 3/4 x 47 3/4 x 12 1/2 h
P44 = 47 3/4 x 47 3/4 x 12 1/2 h
(Other Sizes and Shapes Available Upon Request)

2.4 Panel finish shall be White Gel-Coat, Lightly Textured.
2.6 Mounting shall be Lay-in into standard (intermediate) ceiling grid. Where a pyramidal diffuser with internal liner is specified, the grid shall be rated heavy duty. All grid to be 15/16" width and provided by others.
2.7 Flammability: All Panel components shall have a Class "A" (0-25) Flame Spread rating per ASTM E-84.
2.8 Acoustical Ratings: Panels shall have a minimum Noise Reduction Coefficient (N.R.C.) of .15 in accordance with ASTM test procedures C-423 Type "A" mounting. Gelcoat Finish N.R.C. = .15

Part 3 Execution
3.1 Contractor shall coordinate work of this section with work of other sections which require interface.
3.2 Install panels in accordance with approved shop drawings following manufacturer's instructions for installation procedures.
3.3 Clean all panels which may have been soiled or stained during installation. Carefully follow manufacturer's recommendations, replace any damaged or permanently soiled panels deemed unacceptable by Architect at no expense to the Owner.
