DIFFUSERS
Section 09 84 00 Acoustical Treatment
Part
1 General
1.1 Work in this area shall be subject to drawings, general conditions, schedules,
addenda and other contract documents.
1.2 The extent of Acoustical Resources, Inc. Wall and Ceiling Sound
Diffuser Panels are shown on the drawings and in schedules.
1.3 Submit one sample of each type of Sound Diffuser Panels as shown on drawing and
schedules and include appropriate technical information including test data and
maintenance instructions.
Submit _____ fabric selector cards (if fabric is specified) from manufacturer's standard
finishes, or designer specified finishes, subject to manufacturer approval.
1.4 Provide sound diffuser panels from one source.
1.5 Sound Diffuser Panels shall be protected from excessive moisture in
shipment, storage, and handling. Deliver in unopened bundles and store in a dry place with
adequate air circulation. Do not deliver material to building until "wet work"
such as concrete and plaster have been completed and cured to a condition of equilibrium.
1.6 Installation of Sound Diffuser Panels shall not begin until all wet
work is completed. Building shall be properly closed in and under standard occupancy
conditions (temp. of 60 - 85 degrees F. and not more than 80% Relative Humidity).
1.7 The contractor shall be responsible for the examination and
acceptance of all surface and conditions prior to the acoustical panel installation.
1.8 Warranty: Panels will be warranted to be free from defects in
material and workmanship, under normal service and use, for a period of one year from the
date of installation.
Part 2 Materials
2.1 Sound Diffuser Panels shall be type: Barrel Shaped
Diffuser panels as provided by Acoustical Resources, Inc./P.O.

2.2 Standard Sound Diffuser panels shall be constructed of a laminate of
one layer of fiberglass mat saturated with five retardant polyester resin with a top coat
of a white gel-coat molded in a one piece special barrel shape. (Specified - Barrel
Shaped Diffuser)
Option IA: The internal concave surface of the diffuser shall be lined with
1½" thick layer of glass fiber batts adhered to it (Specified - Barrel
Shaped Diffuser with Internal Absorber [IA]).
Option IL: The internal concave surface of the diffuser shall be lined with a
dense, fire retardant, non-acoustical liner. (Specified - Barrel Shaped
Diffuser with Internal Liner [IL]).
2.3 Sizes: As shown on drawings.
2.4 Panel Finish shall be: _____ White Gel-Coat, Lightly
Textured (other colors available) or Woven Polyester Fabric. Fabric finish shall be
applied directly to the face and edges of the panel and returned to the back of the panel
to provide a full finished edge. All corners are to be fully tailored.
2.6 Mounting shall be: concealed mechanical clips at top
and hook & loop bottom for Wall Application and Grid Clips onto standard, intermediate
duty, 15/16" wide grid for Ceiling Application.
2.7 Flammability: All Panel components shall have a
Class "A" rating (0-25) Flame Spread per ASTM E-84.
2.8 Acoustical Ratings: Panels shall have a minimum
Noise Reduction Coefficient (N.R.C.) with the sound absorption coefficients as noted
below:
Gelcoat Finish N.R.C. = .20, Fabric Finish N.R.C. = .20, Fabric with Internal
Absorber N.R.C. = .35, in accordance with ASTM test procedures #C-423 Type A Mounting.
Part 3 Execution
3.1 Contractor shall coordinate work of this section with work of other
sections which require interface.
3.2 Install panels in accordance with approved shop drawings following
manufacturer's instructions for installation procedures.
3.3 Clean all panel systems which may have been soiled or stained during
installation. Carefully following manufacturer's recommendations, replace any damaged or
permanently soiled panels deemed unacceptable by Architect at no expense to the Owner.
