Section 09 80 40 Acoustical Wall Treatment
Part
1 General:
1.1 Acoustical Treatments shall be provided by: Acoustical Resources, Inc. PO
Box 200504, Austin, TX 78720-0504, Phone (512) 259-5858 Fax: (512) 259-5850.
1.2 References:
A. ASTM C423-81a, Sound Absorption and Sound Absorption
Coefficients by the Reverberation Room Method.
B. ASTM E-84-81a, Surface Burning
Characteristics of Building Materials.
1.3 Delivery Storage & Handling
A. Deliver products to site, store and protect under provisions of Section 01600.
1.4 Submittals
A. Shop Drawings: Where custom sized
panels are indicated on architectural drawings, submit shop drawings with minimum
1/4" scale wall elevations and appropriate details indicating field dimensions, panel
layout, and installation methods.
B. Product Data: Submit manufacturer's product
data including specifications, installation instructions, test data, maintenance, and
warranty information.
C. Samples: Submit ______ (quantity)
samples (12" x 12") of each type of acoustical panel as shown on the drawings
and schedule.
1.5 Substitutions or changes will only be permitted per
Section 01600.
Part 2 Products
2.1 Materials:
B.1 Resilient Acoustical Panels shall be
constructed of a single core construction of dimensionally stable noncombustible, abuse
resistant 6-7 pcf glass. Thickness (choose one): 1", or 2".
B.2 Panel Sizes: _____wide and _____high or as shown
on drawings. Standard maximum size is 48" wide x 120" high (nominal). Custom or
larger sizes available; consult Manufacturer. Panels are to be manufactured according to
field dimensions supplied by the installing contractor. Standard tolerances are
±1/16" in width and length.
B.3 Panel Edge profiles shall be
square.Corner detail shall be square. Edge Treatment shall be unhardened.
B.4 Panel finish shall be:

Manufacturer's standard RESILIENT fabric is Whispertex "Plisse," a ribbed,
nonwoven polyester, 54" wide fabric or Technique Textiles "Ripcord" a
ribbed, nonwoven polyolefin, 54" wide fabric. Select from 15+ standard colors. Other
nonwoven, unbacked fabrics or C.O.M. subject to manufacturer's approval prior to order
acceptance. Finish shall be applied direclty to the face and edges of the panel and
returned to the back of the panel to provide a full finished edge. All corners are fully
tailored.
B.5 Panel mounting shall be: impaling clip and
adhesive, mechanical Z-clip, or custom____(specify). Adhesive or other incidental
materials are to be supplied by the installing contractor.
B.6 Acoustical Performance: Wall panels shall have a
minimum Noise Reduction Coefficient (NRC) of (1" = .85-.90, 2" = 1.0) _____
(specify) in accordance with ASTM C-423 - 81a, Sound Absorption and Sound Absorption
Coefficients by the Reverberation Room Method.
B.7 Flammability: All components utilized in the
construction of the wall panels shall have a Class "I" (0-25) rating in
accordance with ASTM E-84-81a, Surface Burning characteristics of Building Materials.
Part 3 Execution
3.01 Examination and Preparation:
A. Installation of acoustical panels shall
not begin until all wet work (plastering, concrete, etc.) is completed and dry. Building
shall be properly enclosed and under standard occupancy conditions (temperature of 60-85
degrees F. and not more than 80% relative humidity) before installation begins.
B. The contractor shall be responsible for
the examination and acceptance of all surfaces and conditions prior to the acoustical
panel installation.
3.02 Installation: Acoustical panels shall
be installed according to manufacturer's recommendations and instructions.
